ANARCHIST LIBRARY

LENDING BOOKS FOR FREE EVERY SATURDAY FROM 14 TILL 18 HOURS
The Collection:

The main focus of the collection is, as the name of the library already implies, anarchism. The books can be of theoretical as well as of practical content. For instance, you will find books about history, squatting, ecology, art and culture and prison struggle. Also there are books which aren't written by anarchists or about anarchism. They are in the library, because the points of view and ideas of the writer appeal to us.

Why an Anarchist Library?

The Anarchistische Groep Amsterdam started the library in the summer of 2002, because: -we wanted to create a space where people could get to know anarchist ideas in a simple and accessible way. -we wanted to build a collection that contains everything written in or translated into Dutch about anarchism. Although we don't strictly define ourselves to the Dutch language. There are also English, French, German en Spanish books to be found.

Counter Information:

There are several Dutch and foreign magazines to be read. All of which in their own way give counter information to the mainstream media. Magazines of which always the most recent numbers will be available are among others:

De AS Buiten de Orde Fabel van de Illegaal Obrer* Prisioner* (ABC Spain) North Eastern Anarchist Direkte Aktion Newsletter of ABC Gent

How Does it Work?

Every Saturday you can lend a book for 3 weeks by paying 5 euros deposit and by leaving your name and telephone number. You can lend it for three weeks. It's possible to lengthen the period of lending by 2 weeks. This has to be told by phone or personally in the library on the Saturday on which the term expires. In case of loss of a book another 20 euro replacement costs have to be paid besides the deposit. In case of damage which is caused not by reading, such as water damage, the deposit won't be paid back.

Consultation Hour

In today's world everything from arguments with the boss, to conflicts with the employer over wages, to illegal or unjustified firings, is still commonplace. Because of this we opened a place where everybody can come to get mutual support or ideas for ways of rectifying their situation.
