Na alles wat er gebeurt in deze stad en wereld is het nu genoeg! Basta! Het CIA infocafe wil een krachtig signaal laten horen aan alle betrokkenen en heeft besloten in februari 2004 in staking te gaan! Staakt! Tegen de apathie! Tegen de oorlogen in Irak en elders! Tegen de algehele lamlendigheid roepen wij een algemene staking uit! In februari roepen wij op tot solidaritatisstakingen, stakingsbijeenkomsten en protestplanning! En tot herdenking van de grote stakingen uit het verleden, de Februaristaking van 1941 en de spoorwegstaking van 1903!
Vanwege de staking zal het infocafe op andere tijden/dagen open zijn dan normaal.

After everything that is happening in this city and world we think it is enogh! Basta! The CIA infocafe wants to send out a strong signal to all those concerned and decided to go on strike in February 2004! Strike! Against the apathy! Against wars in Iraq and everywhere else! Against the general misery we call a general strike! In February we are calling for solidarity strikes, strike meetings and protest planning meetings! Let's remember some of the great strikes in history, like the 1941 February strike and the railway strikes of 1903!
Due to the strike the infocafe will be open at different times and days than normal.

Is onze infrastructuur voldoende? Hebben we meer nodig, meer ontmoetingsdagen en -plaatsen, meer eten voor de armen?
Vaker kraakontbijt, zeker elke week? Meer propaganda voor onze initiatieven?

Did the Amsterdam-East protest movement manage to raise its fist, or is more needed?

Women's Global Network for ReproductiveRights in danger!
In het kader van Asterdam Oost en de wereld, denk globaal, doe lokaal, willen wij deze avond wijden aan het Women's Global Network for ReproductiveRights. Deze wereldwijde vrouwengezondheidsorganisatie is gevestigd in Amsterdam-Oost. Kort geleden heeft de minister van ontwikkelingssamenwerking (!) aangekondigd de subsidie voor het netwerk in te trekken. Het netwerk werkt met ruim 1700 organisaties uit de hele wereld samen en verspreidt kennis over zaken rondom de seksuele en reproductieve gezondheid en rechten van vrouwen, bv. over AIDS, anticonceptie, abortus, internationale effecten voor vrouwen van de wereldbankpolitiek etc. Wat doet het netwerk, wat zijn de problemen en hoe kunnen we solidair met ze zijn? Avond met informatie en beeldmateriaal.
In the framework of Amsterdam East and the world, think global, act local, we want to organise this evening with the Women's Global Network for ReproductiveRights. This worldwide women's health organisationhas their office in Amsterdam ast. Recently the Dutch minister of development affairs has announced that he will withdraw the subsidies for the network.
The network cooperates with over 1700 organisations worldwide and spreads knowledge about the sexual and reproductive health and rights of women, e.g. about AIDS, anticonception, abortion, international effects of world bank policies on women etc. An evening about the activities of the network, their problems, and possible ways of solidarity with them. Wednesday February 25th memorial of February strike
Op woensdag 25 februari aanstaande wordt in Amsterdam wederom de Februaristaking 1941 herdacht.
De februaristaking werd uitgeroepen door Amsterdamse arbeiders om te protesteren tegen het wegvoeren van Joden door de Nazi's in 1941. Het is nog steeds een symbool van verzet tegen fascisme en onderdrukking.
De herdenking is bij het beeld van de Dokwerker op het Jonas Daniel Meijerplein, vanaf 16.45 uur.
Wednesday February 25th the February strike of 1941 is commemorated. This strike was called for by Amsterdam workers to protest against the deportation of the Amsterdam jews by the nazis. It still is a symbol of resistance against fascism and repression. The memorial is at the statue 'de Dokwerker' (the docker) at the Jonas Daniel Meijerplein, starting 16.45 hrs.

Achteraf soep in het infocafe en napraten over de herdenking. Wat betekenen dit soort herdenkingen voor aktievoerders tegenwoordig nog? Moeten we zelf onze eigen herdenkingen houden soms? Hoe gaat het met onze staking?

Worker's evening
Avond voor de werkende mens. Is werken eigenlijk wel gezond? Is er een recht op luiheid? Werken linkse mensen nou harder dan anderen of juist niet? Moeten we de ID-banen behouden? Of is dat toch maar uitbuiting? Een avond kletsen voor alle stakers.
Evening for working people. Is working healthy actually? Is there a right to laziness? Do leftwing people work harder than others or not? Is it good to keep the government-sponsored job programmes? Or is that even more exploitation? An evening of chatting for all strikers.

Kino Club Ost: 'Bread and Roses' (US/UK, 2000, 110 min, Ken Loach)
Sociale film over protesterende schoonmaaksters in Hollywood. Maya is een illegale Mexicaanse die in Los Angeles via haar zus een baan krijgt als schoonmaakster. Ze zijn illegaal, en mogen geen lid worden van de vakbond. Mensen worden op staande voet ontslagen en hebben geen rechten. Een vakbondsman probeert ze te helpen met een campagne voor eerlijke beloning en behandeling, door protest en confrontatie. Maya wil graag protesteren met hem, maar haar zus heeft een invalide man om voor te zorgen. Terwijl de directie probeert de protesten de kop in te drukken, gaan de zusters ook de strijd aan. Van de maker van "land and freedom' .
Maya is a quick-witted young woman who comes over the Mexican border without papers and makes her way to the LA home of her older sister Rosa. Rosa gets Maya a job as a janitor: a non-union janitorial service has the contract, the foul-mouthed supervisor can fire workers on a whim, and the service-workers' union has assigned organizer Sam Shapiro to bring its "justice for janitors" campaign to the building. Sam finds Maya a willing listener, she's also attracted to him. Rosa resists, she has an ailing husband to consider. The workers try for public support; management intimidates workers to divide and conquer. Rosa and Maya as well as workers and management may be set to collide. By the maker of 'land and freedom'.

GOODBYE SHARK!
In this flyer the CIA infocafe wants to say goodbye to the independent Amsterdam underground magazine Shark, that passed away last January. You will be missed Shark! Once started as Queer Fish, Shark became a well-known information paper on squats, politix, queer places, movies, DJs, horoscopes, and much much more. Thanks Pip, and good luck with al your other work and your website!
