De naam/ doelstellingen:

De naam Hoge Fietsen Faculteit Kunst Galerie kiezen wij vanwege de wereldwijde ervaring met hoge fietsen. Zij blijken veiliger dan normale fietsen in het stadsverkeer en ook erg nuttig !

Toekomst: hoge fietsen voor politie (geen politiepaarden meer bij rellen), brandweer, gezinnen, vracht- vouwfietsen, multifunctionele hoge fietsen. Het woord faculteit gebruiken we vanwege de enorme, 2 jaar ongebruikte ruimte in het gebouw van de Universiteit van Amsterdam en omdat we met onze hoge fietsen research, design, kunst en experimenten interdisciplinair willen bewijzen dat hoge fietsen gelijkwaardig aan gewone fietsen in de toekomstige fiets-cultuur geaccepteerd zouden moeten worden.

Om dit te bereiken beginnen we met de verkenning van de psychologische, sociologische, politicologische, economische, design en constructie aspecten en andere studies gedurende het hoge fietsen festival en conferentie eind juli 2004.

We gaan voor duurzame fietsen en -cultuur, het recyclen van oude gebruikte fietsen, ongelimiteerde fiets-creativiteit en niet voor kapitalistische benadering via massa-productie van slechte kwaliteitsfietsen enkel en alleen voor winstbejag.

Dat leidt tot enorme vervuiling en irrationeel gebruik van grondstoffen.

Kunst Galerie - Fiets Zomer School

Beste vrienden en buren. We hebben een ruimte gekraakt in de Sarphatistraat 131 in Amsterdam. Deze ruimte staat al meer dan een jaar leeg. Amsterdam heeft een groot gebrek aan betaalbare leef- en werkruimtes. We willen deze ruimte veranderen in een alternatieve multi-functionele galerie/open studio en zomer hoge fietsen school. De gemeente erkent het belang van culturele broedplaatsen in Amsterdam: "Wij ondersteunen deze culturele starters die van vitaal belang zijn om onze cultuur voort te stuwen. Er is geen cultuur zonder sub-cultuur". Terwijl Amsterdam zich op de borst slaat om z'n culturele diversiteit komt daar tegenwoordig weinig van terecht.

Erger nog: Amsterdam gaat miljoenen bezuinigen op culturele en sub-culturele projecten en ruimtes in de nabije toekomst. Aldus is ons standpunt dat de Amsterdamse gemeenschap en het bedrijfsleven het enorme aantal lege gebouwen en (kantoor)ruimtes moet aanbieden en benutten voor sub-culturele en woonprojecten en het kraken moet accepteren zelfs als gebouwen korter dan 6 maanden leegstaan. Met onze actie willen onderstrepen en er op wijzen dat de gemeente, in dit geval de Universiteit van Amsterdam (UvA Holding) gemeenschapsgeld op onverantwoorde manier gebruikt waardoor meer dan

€ 30.000 per jaar verloren gaat enkel door leegstand !!!???

Onze galerie wil ruimte verschaffen voor en aan culturele vrijplaatsen, voor kunstenaars uit Amsterdam en elders. Iedereen is welkom. Het is een non-profit plek die totale creatieve vrijheid biedt. Wij vinden dat vrije kunstenaars de vrijheid moeten hebben in een transparante locatie om hun werk tentoon te kunnen stellen. Veel kunstenaars hebben niet de financiële middelen om deel te nemen aan de commerciële kunst-industrie.

Wij vinden dat kunst als entiteit zich niet moet baseren op kapitalistische logica, maar kritisch moet reflecteren op de maatschappij. De logica van "nutteloze" schoonheid moet volgen. Wij hopen daarom een positieve bijdrage te creëren op locatie in het hart van Amsterdam.

"The Tall Bikes Faculty" ArtGallery - squatted 4th July 2004

The name/aims:

The name "Tall Bike Faculty" Art Gallery we are chosing, because of worldwide experience with taller bikes. They seem to be safer than normal bikes in the city traffic and also very useful! Future: police tall bikes (no more riot police horses), firemen, family, cargo, folding, mutipurpose tallbikes, etc. The word faculty we use, because the huge, 2 years unused space is in the building of University of Amsterdam and because with our tall bike research, design, art and experiments we want to prove interdicsiplinary that tall bikes should be equally accepted in the future bike culture. To achieve this we are starting with psycholigical, sociological, politoligical, economical, design, construction and other studies during the tallbike festival and conference at the end of July 2004. We are standing for sustainable bicycles and culture, recycling of old bikes, unlimited bicycle creativity and not for capitalistic approach of mass production of bad quality bicycles just for profit, leading to enormous pollution and unrational use of resources.

Art Gallery / Bicycle summer school:

Dear friends and neighbours. We have squatted a space on Sarphatistraat 131 in Amsterdam. The space had been unoccupied for over one year. Amsterdam has a great shortage of affordable living/work spaces. We want to turn this space into an alterantive multifunctional gallery/open studio and summer tall / bicycle school. The community acknowledges the importance of cultural breeding grounds in Amsterdam: "We support these cultural starters, which are vital to the carrying forward of our culture. There is no culture without subculture". While Amsterdam prides itself on its cultural diversity, it currently comes to nothing in real terms. Even worse, Amsterdam is going to cut millions of funding for cultural-subcultural projects and spaces in very near future. Thus our idea is that Amsterdam community and bussiness companies should offer the use of enormous amount of empty buildings and spaces for sub/cultural and housing projects and accept squatting even if the buildings are empty less than 6 months. With our action we want to underline, that community and in our case the University of Amsterdam (UvA Holding) is using "people's money" in irresponsible way - loosing more than 30.000 euro per year just because the place is not in use!?

Our gallery will provide a delivery room for cultural breeding grounds (vrijplaatsen), for artists from Amsterdam and much further afield. Everyone is welcome. It is a non-profit space, offering total creative freedom.

We find that unestablished artists must have the possibility of using a visible location to exhibit their work. Many artists don't have the financial means to participate in the commercial art industry. We have the idea that art as an entity must not base itself on capitalist logic, but critically reflect on society as well as express, following the logis of "useless" beauty. We therefore hope to create a positive addition to this location in the hearth of Amsterdam.
