(MYOPIA) 2
A movement theater production by Djalma Primordial Science
|
|
ANA KAREN SUAREZ EPHIA - unsound body + voice
JEFF GBUREK - laptop + prepared guitar
A nearly-blind schoolgirl, bespectacled. Dreaming through a haze of myopia, she runs into herself, her skin seeing more than her eyes. She is most certainly teetering on the awkward verge of puberty, when everything is lost: split in two. There is no teacher, no correction. Only the immediate reflections of primitive ghosts and autonomic machines seeking the [dis]equilibrium of an unseeable future.

L'AUBERGE ESPAGNOLE
Directed by Cedric Klapisch, France, 2002
As part of a job that he is promised, Xavier, an economics student in his twenties, signs on to a European exchange program in order to gain working knowledge of the Spanish language. Promising that they'll remain close, he says farewell to his loving girlfriend, then heads to Barcelona. Following his arrival, Xavier is soon thrust into a cultural melting pot when he moves into an apartment full of international students. An Italian, an English girl, a boy from Denmark, a young girl from Belgium, a German and a girl from Tarragona all join him in a series of adventures that serve as an initiation to life.

LES POUPEES RUSSES
Directed by Cedric Klapisch, France, 2005
In this sequel to "L'Auberge Espagnol", Xavier is now thirty. No longer a student, he is not yet a well-balanced, fullfiiled adult either. His career is unsatisfying - far from being the renowned novelist he aimed to be he must be content with little jobs such as reporter or ghost writer. His greatest "achievement" in "literature" is his collaboration to the script of a corny TV soap! His sentimental life is not much better, punctuateded by one night stands and unfinished romances. Will he ever bring his life into focus?

The Ex did two unprecedented, pioneering tours in Ethiopia. One in the north in 2002 and the other one in the south in 2004. 15 concerts in total. There is an overwhelming amount of great music in Ethiopia and The Ex is glad to present these two musicians from very different backgrounds...
Getatchew Mekuria [b.1935] is probably the most revered veteran of Ethiopian saxophone. A real giant, both musically and physically. His music is daring, improvisational, angry and impetuous.
Mohammed Jimmy Mohammed [b.1958] is an incredible blind singer from the bar-circuit in Addis Abeba. He is here to present his first CD: 'Takkebel!', just released on Terp Records.

GRASS: WAR ON DRUGS
Directed by Ron Mann, USA, 1999.
Consider this a documentary for those who inhaled. Ron Mann's playful portrait of marijuana in America is less a social history than an examination of the government's systematic seven-decade campaign to demonize the devil's weed: the conspiracy against cannabis! Through government documents, period newsreels, and clips from hysterical educational scare films and campy overheated features (like High on the Range and the cult classic Reefer Madness), Mann reveals a systematic policy of misinformation to justify the billions spent on the losing war on drugs. Well researched this witty history lesson is charged with raucous energy and a satirical slant. Mann and his easygoing narrator Woody Harrelson may be preaching to the converted, but it's a hilarious sermon. Pass the munchies!

SHAMANS OF THE AMAZON
Directed by Dean Jefferys, USA.
A personal account of filmmaker Dean Jefferys returning to the Amazon with his partner and one year old daughter. They journey deep into the heart of the Ecuadorian rainforest to meet two Amazon shamans to learn about and experience the ancient hallucinogenic ayahuasca ritual. The film brings to the viewer an intimate and fascinating look at the shamans of the Amazon, their culture and their rituals that are fast disappearing. The ayahuasca ritual is thousands of years old. It is said ayahuasca allows the shaman to enter other dimensions where complicated healings, shamanic battles, clairvoyance, initiations, ancestral knowledge exchange and communications with the plant, animal and spirit world is possible.

LSD: THE BEYOND WITHIN
BBC Documentary, 1987.
LSD is one ofthe strangest and most controversial substances known to science.
A dose smaller than a grain of salt precipitates a wonderfull or hazardous mental journey into a universe of hallucination, intense emotion and, some believe, mystical revelation. These remarkable effects were discovered bythe Swiss chemist Albert Hoffman in1943. During the 50s LSD was used widely for research in psychiatric hospitals. Then inthe early 1960s LSD leaked out of the laboratory. With bizarre and unforeseen consequences the drug was consumed by a generation of young people seeking spiritual transcendence and an escape from the conventional world.

HOFMANN'S POTION
Directed by Connie Littlefield, Canada, 2002.
Long before Timothy Leary urged a generation to "tune in, turn on and drop out", D-lysergic acid diethylamide [LSD] was being used by researchers trying to understand the human mind. Discovered in 1943 by Swiss chemist Albert Hofmann, LSD was hailed as a powerful tool to treat alcoholism and drug addiction and to provide a window into schizophrenia and other mental illnesses. Much of that pioneering research was done by the team of Humphry Osmond, Abram Hoffer and Duncan Blewett, all working in Saskatchewan. While researchers were establishing the medical benefits of LSD, others like author Aldous Huxley promoted the drug as a powerful tool for mental exploration and self-understanding. At Harvard, Timothy Leary, Ralph Metzner and Ram Dass [then known as Richard Alpert] became popular heroes after the university cancelled their research project into psychedelics. Featuring interviews with many LSD pioneers, filmmaker Connie Littlefield delves into the little-known early history of the worlds most notorious concoction.

ECSTASY - THE ATTACK OF THE HAPPY PEOPLE
Direcetd by Nadav Harel, Israel, 2003.
Ecstasy, which started out as a psychotherapeutic drug, acquired the reputation of a happiness pill and thus became one of the most consumed recreational drugs today. Wandering through X culture exposes some surprising links between the subculture of parties, wild sex, consumerism and religion. By pointing the camera on Israel 2003 war, religious fundamentalism, consumerism and drugs - the film depicts a world in which reality and hallucination are constantly recreating each other in an inseparable and sometimes crazy, sometimes wonderful path.

LIQUID CRYSTAL VISION
Directed by Torsten Kummer, UK, 2001.
A psychedelic movie that weaves a multi-colored tapestry of dance, trance, mystical arts, and science on the digital loom of shamanic cybernetic consciousness. This 60 minute wake-up call to the world reaches the public as a global peace prayer, suggesting to dance in trance parties and the right to get high as alternatives to war and global domination. The film enchants the audience with a mystical beauty that becomes apparent when watching it. Watching the film triggers a certain psychological response that unchains deep inner truths. Its hallucinatory sights and sounds catapult viewers into cosmic spheres.
