In-depth television documentary about the life, times, and legacy of Nikola Tesla, American inventor and visionary. Tesla invented or developed many of the electrical technologies which form the basis of modern life, but his visionary genius and technical skill was countered by his lack of business acumen and eccentric personality. After dying penniless in 1943, his "missing papers" regarding the construction of a "death ray" became the focus of international intrigue. His research on particle beam weapons led to several American and Soviet military research programs, including the Strategic Defense Initiative, known as SDI or "Star Wars".
THE SECRET OF NIKOLA TESLA
Directed by Krsto Papi, Yugoslavia, 1980.
A bewitching film about one of the world's most gifted but unknown scientific discoverers, the genius, born in 1856 in the village of Smiljan, in Croatia,who ushered in the age of electricity. Tesla's inventions were stolen but his name nevertheless remains legendary for his overwhelming scientific contributions. He is quoted as saying "Science is but a perversion of itself unless it has as its ultimate goal the betterment of humanity." This biopic attempts to clear up the mystery that surrounds him and his over 700 patents and numerous discoveries in electricity inluding, design of the first hydro-electric power plant in Niagara Falls, discovery of radio waves, x-rays and the fluorescent light. This film was produced by Orson Welles who plays the part of Tesla's patron, J.P. Morgan.

Disguised as a serious documentary on the changing sexual mores of 1970s German youth, SCHOOLGIRL REPORT doesn't take long to drop its mask, revealing its softcore sleaziness via a series of [sometimes involuntarily humoristic] kinky vignettes. The first of 12 sequels and a classic of Teutonic sexploitation, "Schulmädchen-Report" is an amusing and titillating dip into the voyeuristic innocence of 60's nudie cinema.

The legendary first Dutch full length XXX rated movie got recently re-released in cinemas after 25 years of oblivion. "PRUIMENBLOESEM" made history for its high production value [many mainstream professionals worked at the film under false names] and for creating one of the first strong leading female characters in adult cinema [Diana de Koning]. Myriam's sexual encounters will be introduced by two rarely shown shorts of director Willem van Batenburg.
After the screening, van Batenburg will attend a Q+A session and read passages from his book on the making of the film and the history of the Dutch pornographic industry.

Clayton Thomas is an Australian bassist based in Berlin who has dedicated himself wholly to the pursuit of improvisation, studying with master bassists Wilber Morris and Henry Grimes in New York and Peter Kowald in Germany. He has performed around the US, Europe, Australia and New Zealand with three generations of improvisers - including Alexander Von Schlippenbach, Hamid Drake, Axel Dorner, Sonny Simmons, Marilyn Crispell, Jon Rose, Jim Denley, Tony Buck and Makigami Koichi. His use of extended techniques and extreme physicality bring a new voice to the double bass, giving this music unexpected turns and twists. He is also the founder of the NOW now festival of improvised music and the leader of the 30 piece electro-acoustic ensemble The Splinter Orchestra.
