Raytheon Missile Systems may be building weapons of mass destruction in
Tucson.
There are 1,200 Tomahawk missiles ready to be launched at Iraq. As many as
800 of these missiles will be used in the first three days of a war against
Iraq and the UN clains as many as 500,000 people might be killed in the
conflict. These weapons were manufactured by Raytheon in Tucson. Are these
weopons and the ones being built to replace them capable of using chemical,
biological or nuclear war heads? They also manufactured Stinger missiles
that fell into the hands of terrorists.
On Thursday, February 13, 2003, the peace group United Neighbors will send a
delegation of weapons inspectors to the Raytheon Missile Systems plant in
Tucson. At noon on Thursday UN inspectors will visit Raytheon in order to
interview Raytheon scientists and inspect documents and production
facilities for evidence of illegal weapons production.
It is the concern of United Neighbors that the Raytheon plant in Tucson may
be producing Tomahawk missiles capable of delivering depleted uranium and/or
nuclear warheads. If this is the case, Raytheon is in violation of
international law, which holds individuals and corporations liable for
supplying governments with weapons that are used to commit war crimes and
crimes against humanity.
"US foreign policy as enforced by the US military is the greatest threat to
world peace" said Bill Moeller, one of United Neighbors' inspectors, "and
the Tomahawk missile has become the US military's weapon of choice.
Proliferation of weapons of mass destruction begins here and we want to see
it end here."
The United States enforces a double standard, demanding that Iraq, North
Korea and other nations not produce such weapons while continuing its own
illegal weapons program. Throughout the world, peace groups such as United
Neighbors are filling the role of weapons inspectors to draw attention to
the vast number of weapons of mass destruction being stockpiled, mostly by
the United States and its allies. The bulk of these weapons are produced by
American corporations such as Raytheon.
